Well, you might bury me with a stake of holly in my chest but I still am going to wish you Merry Christmas whether you are Christian, agnostic or Hindu. I won’t be insulted if you great me during your religious holiday, either. In any case, I hope you will try one of my favorite Christmas recipes that I make once a year. These cookies remind me of my childhood as my grandmother made these every year along with fudge, divinity, white fruitcake and chex mix. I also must confess that I am busy baking today rather than writing. Tis the season! : ) I’ll will have a book review by the weekend. Next month, I may be reviewing a diet book….

Grandmother Gossett’s Gumdrop Cookies

 2 eggs

1 1/8 cup brown sugar

1 cup sifted flour

Pinch of salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 lb orange slices cut up into small pieces

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1 teaspoon vanilla

powdered sugar

Mix everything but powdered sugar together (will be quite sticky). Grease an 8×8 square pan with crisco. Then line with wax paper including up the sides. Grease the top of the wax paper as well. Pour the batter into the pan, pushing it down a bit to spread out. Bake for 40 minutes at 350. Take out and immediately cut into small squares and remove cookies from wax paper. Roll in powdered sugar. Let cool and enjoy!
